99 cherokee steering / turning trouble
MY 99 sport has a steering / turning problem and it seems to be slowly getting worse. When I make left/right turns going all speed under 30 mph, the steering wheel jerks back and forth. To describe it better, it seems like the jeep is trying to steer itself. Please help!
I also have a problem with going over bumps on the highway at highway speeds. It tend to shake pretty bad untill I slow down. Thanks SOOO much!!! |

Re: 99 cherokee steering / turning trouble
I have to say, it sounds like two probs:
First - the hard steering, you're not running it in 4WD on dry roads I hope. That'll cause that jerking back and forth. Second - The shaking, sounds like some bushings are shot in the front end. Go through and check all stabilizer and steerning bushings. Could also be the cause of the first problem I guess. Good luck!

Re: 99 cherokee steering / turning trouble
Ya, bushings, but to check those, you will need to get the jeep off the ground and let the suspention hang free. For your steering problem, look at your stabilizer shock on the draglink, god chance its toast. Also to check your ball joints. Juack up the vehicle just enough to get a bar(jack handle) under the tire, with the bar under the tire, lift up on the tire, there should be NO play up and down, if there is, you'll need to get your jeep into a GOOD alignment shop to change the joints and to re-align your front end. Be aware, the later is pricey! Good luck,

Re: 99 cherokee steering / turning trouble
Insure that your Part Time or Full Time lights are not on!!! This means your Front hubs are still locked and will cause this jerking / hard stearing!
