My 1998 chevrolet suburban check engine light stays on does anyone know how to reset it?

It needs to be done via a scanner/code reader. Any local auto parts store should be able to do it. You should also have the codes read so that you can identify the problem and fix it. If not, the light may come on again.

Something is not right, was there not any codes that showed up? And why wouldn't they reset it once the codes where read.

Obd2 system will not turn on a check engine with out keeping a code set

What was the milage when the light came on? The light on my vehicle just came on last night at 60275. I believe the sensor is programed to come on at or near 60000 miles so you have to bring the vehicle in for service. The reason I say this is because I had a Nissan and a mitisubishi that the lights came on at 60000 miles. But those vehicles had a A B switch located behind the dash. In order to reset them all I had to do was move the switch to the other position. And at 90000, when it came on again and I just moved the switch back to the other position and the light went out. I should note that at no time then or now were the vehicles running or acting poorly.
