Engine wants to die
I replaced the fuel filter about 10000 miles ago. Currently the truck has 110,000 on it. How would I check the fuel pressure?

Re: Engine wants to die
you would need a pressure tester and you should have a Schrader valve on your fuel line near the engine, (Looks like a valve for your tires) the gauge connects there, I'm not near my garage right now to get you the pressure it should read but if you do some surfing on this sight you should be able to find the correct pressure for your vehicle. You only need to turn your key on till you hear your fuel pump run (it will only run for about 2 sec.) Dont start it check the pressure then.

It stalls after starting and running for 2-3 seconds. Here is the repair history: The Truck has 112,000 mi. At 87,000 I had the EGR replaced, 105,000 had the spider injectors replaced. 105,000 mi was also the last tune-up Plugs, wires, cap and button and replacing the fuel filter. Could the EGR valve be clogged again? I never replaced the fuel pump but I hear it working when I turn the key.

Re: Engine wants to die
Just because you hear the pump doen't always mean it is producing sufficient pressure. have you scanned it for any codes...

Re: Engine wants to die
Who posted this thread? Sounds like two different people - blazerBR and shadowblazer, both with identical mileage and problem?

Same person – I guess I registered twice.

So I had the EGR valve cleaned again, replaced the map sensor. The fuel pressure was checked at 50 psi. Engine scan codes were 33 and 45. I can start it after about 5 minutes of constant pumping and then it seems fine. Starts fine after it is warm. Could someone explain the injection system. I had the spider injection replaced. Are there individual injectors that would not have been replaced? If so could one injector be leaking or stuck? I read about the nut kit. Could this be the problem?

Try replacing the oil pressure switch.

Re: Engine wants to die
Whoa, you might want to recheck the CPI injector and the nut kit to see if they are not leaking again.
This definitely sounds like what is causing this. Is it hard to start sometimes?

Have you checked the IAC? Do you have a Haynes or Chilton's manual? If you do, find out what the cold resistance of ETC sensor is and check it. It is located near the thermostat. |
