I recently ordered SAS seats. I have painted resin before without trouble. I did the usual. Prime, dry, paint, dry. i went to mask the seats and i was peeling off the tape i didnt want and it peeled the paint and primer right off?! Am I doing something wrong?

Re: painting troubles

I had similar problem with resin

Try sanding the seat before painting to give the primer something to stick

Re: painting troubles

Hmmm it seems you missed the first and most important step. Wash the parts first to remove any mold release left on the piece

Even if no mold release is used, the resin parts have been in contact with silicone mold material. Silicone and paint do not mix.

I've found one sure-fire way to ensure resin has no residue, and that is to spray it w/Easy Off oven cleaner. It won't harm resin and removes anything from the surface (including paint). I learned this the hard way w/a model that I used every cleaner known to mankind to remove the mold release, including a lacquer thinner bath, and the paint still screwed up. When I stripped the paint, the release went with it, and no more problems.

Re: painting troubles

As ZZ said...you need to give them a good clean and wash before primming them

Yes, Easy Off the whole works, clean up good, repaint...everything should be fine then.

Also, a batch in Westley's Bleach White (sold at Wal-Mart and most N.A. auto parts stores) is a good silicon remover and resin parts prep.
