VR4 vs. RX7

This is a pretty brief one. I'm headed into town in my stock '93 VR4, and I come up on this older looking car, nothing special. He's in front of me with a LOUD exhaust, and he pulls in. I pull up beside him and kind of chuckle, because he thinks he's going to run with me. Then I notice his tree of gauges, and him reaching down and fiddling with something. Possibly a boost controller. He pulls out right on my tail and he's got the hood scoop. I was like, oh no, he's going to kill me. Anyway, the car in front of me wouldn't pull in, so I went into 3rd on the inside, and then into 4th. He stayed with me, and once into 4th, pulled up on my tail, not quickly, but I think he could have gone by. I just started driving normally again, and then went into 3rd when he obviously didn't expect me to. I kept it down through some of 4th, and he hung with me, but didn't come up this time. Anyway, I'm pretty sure he could have gone by when ready, that car sounded pretty good. I'd be willing to bet he was running something other than a stock turbo. It's funny how you come across a car that looks like crap and you laugh at it, and then it proceeds to blow your doors off (or at least has that capability). Oh well. I need a boost controller. Until next time...

They deserve more respect than all show and no go cars. Gotta give it to him.

Man, those old school RX7s are beasts. You should give him a go if you see him again, I'd like to know the outcome.

I will definitely give him another go, but I am going to get a boost controller first. I am too poor right now, so I'm going to get a manual controller and set it at either 13 or 14psi. Should be good for 30-40hp. He'd probably still kill me.

Re: VR4 vs. RX7

I must say I am impressed by the folks in here that do not mind posting that they were killed or could have been killed.

I think those people deserve lots of respect ... much better person than those that need to make false claims of beating cars.

*off my soapbox

Thanks for your story

Re: VR4 vs. RX7

You said hood scoop, so Im pretty sure you mean a RX-7 FC Turbo II, if so those cars arent to be underestimated...

I actually happen to like the looks of the car, its sad that you guys consider it "crappy" looking. It qas quite the iconic sports car back in its day...

He might've meant it was old and banged up.

My title says it's an RX7. Anyway, the shape of the car was fine, just bland wheels and faded and scratched paint. That's what I mean by crappy looking. To disagree with BluCivic, I still contest that all go/no show cars deserve more respect than all show/no go cars. The drivers are less likely to exhibit true ricer traits. Then again, that's only my opinion.

Re: VR4 vs. RX7

Nice story... those lil' FC's can be Goliath killers! The 13B-T and even it's NA counterpart can be made into monsters! Watch out and don't under-estimate them! Tell us what happens next time you meet!!
