turbo questions

about a month or so ago i posted a thread about my friend giving me a 16g turbo...well i didn't put it on because the exhaust side had cracks all over it....well i found an excellent exhaust side for it...i do have the compatibility kit for it so it can fit on my 97GST...

question 1 - how hard would it be to put the new exhaust side on?

question 2 - the turbo itself says on the side TD04HL...on google, i found that it was a 15g?

question 3 - the turbo itself has a mitsubishi symbol on it. would this thing be any better than my stock t25? would i even get a noticeable performance increase?

thanks for the help

Re: turbo questions

TDO4 should be 13g and smaller. Its no bigger than a t25. Look on www.vfaq.com and see if you can ID the wheel.

As far as changing the turbine housing, no problem. Just that one band clamp holding it on

Re: turbo questions

Use the gasket to see if the turbine housing inlet (the part that mates to the exhaust manifold) is real small and offset to one side. If it is its a 13g or smaller. The water lines are different too, not sure about the oil lines. That turbo may not work with your install kit.

If the inlet seems the same it may have a Tdo5 hot side. If thats the case just toss that POS on there and see if there is a performance difference. Shouldnt hurt. If it doesnt add much power and you think its some small turbo, it would only take ~30 minutes to swap a 14b or 16g on there since the install kit is already there.

Re: turbo questions

Since you're already planning on putting a new turbine housing (hot side) on it, I would recommend checking out the turbine housing that www.bullseye-power.com sells. I have read nothing but good things about them! Just by looking at the pictures of it you can tell it is a really nice piece. It also will put an end to any boost creep problems you may have - which is common with the 14b and 16g turbos. I would definitely keep that in mind, since it's such a good piece!
