Today was interesting... thank goodness for AF!!!

Well, tonight, heading home from the theater, I decided to take the long way home. During this I got pulled over for suspicious driving and having my foglights on... Turns out the suspicious driving was me pulling into the parking lot to try to figure out where I was; apparently it looked as if I were trying to get the cop to not follow me. If my foglights hadn't been on he probably wouldn't have pulled me over... anyways, he basically just told me that I wasn't supposed to have the foglights on, and I went on my way. Maybe 10 miles down the road, (by now I am far into the countryside, on crazy country roads with 3 million dollar houses lining each side) I see something move in the brush near the shoulder. At first I thought it was a racoon or a dog, but as it emerged, I saw that it was much bigger than a racoon or a dog, but rather about the size of a deer. A DEER!!! Aack! I'm about to hit a freakin' deer!! (remember, I'm from Oregon, and the last deer I saw was in New York a year and a half ago, so this is a rare occurence.) He was standing right in the middle of the road, staring at my high beams, like all deers are trained to do, while I was busy ABS panic braking to try to avoid hitting him. All of the sudden my mind flashed back to a post here on AF in the honda forum about whoever it was that, when he was about to hit a deer, tried a different approach other than braking. He punched the clutch and floored it, so that the car morphed into a screaming death machine that the deer wanted nothing to do with. Having an auto, my whole arm instantly spazzed in the general direction of the horn button, unleashing a blast of who knows how long. I'm pretty sure the deer was on the other side of the field before it even touched the ground again.

i knew it! my friend is an idiot. i railed on the horn last time i almost hit a deer, and the whole time my friend was like "STOP HONKING IT WON'T DO ANYTHING!". well, the deer didn't even stop to stare at my headlights so it must've worked, just kept on trucking across the road, and now with your situation i have more proof to use against him.

Awsome story, glad you didn't hit the deer. I work on a chemical plant with a 8 mile buffer zone in every direction. I also live in Mississippi which is notorious for having a high deer population. In that 8 mile buffer zone NOTHING is allowed as far as people/guns, its just basically woods everywhere with roads through it. Needless to say its a haven for deer and wild hogs. Around here your told to honk your horn every 20 seconds as to scare wildlife away, so anyone who says "honking your horn won't do anything" is full of shit.

Why the hell would you get in trouble for having your foglights on?

I think it's illegal to drive with your fog lights on if there's no fog.

It wasn't that there wasn't any fog, cause there was, its that technically you're supposed to supposed to dim the secondary lights to oncoming traffic, just as you would the hi beams. Even though they are aimed LOWER than the low beams. Why? Don't ask me.

that's gay, I wonder if VA has the same law. I see foglights turned on all the time when there is on fog. They aren't even that bright or anything

I purposly leave my fog lights on. It proves to oncoming driver my brights arn't on. Tundra's have crazy bright and high headlights for non HID. My fogs are at the same level as a 2001 camry's headlights for reference.

Re: Today was interesting... thank goodness for AF!!!

I almost smashed a deer sunday night. I was heading up to work for a meeting and I'm going down this winding road and I come around the corning going a tad faster than I should've been going and I see this deer running down the road in my lane. He was running the same way I was going but I couldn't tell at first so i just slammed on my brakes and my car slide sideways but stayed on the road. I decided I should keep heading down the road and about half a mile later I catch up to the deer still running down the road...so I passed him and let him hear the BOV, he then freaked out and ran down into the ditch and into some trees.
I have no idea why he was using the road but atleast he was on the right side.
