Question Sunroof Help

I have a 1991 240sx se with the automatic sunroof that tucks into the roof. It leaks so I was wondering if I could replace it with one of the pop-up ones that aren't auto. Will it fit and what will I need to modify to put it in? Any help is much appreciated. I found one on ebay for $35 and it's a lot cheaper than from Nissan for $492. Thanks guys.

Well maybe I wasn't clear, when I say automatic I mean electric. There is a switch on the roof panel that you press to open the sunroof electrically. The back drops down and then it slides back inside the roof. I hate it with a passion, but I have to deal with it. I believe the other ones pop up and that's what I want to see if it will fit. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Unhappy

But it leaks all over the seats. I hate it . I want to get rid of the sunroof all together, but for now replacing it with somthing that won't leak is my top priority.

Can't you just put a new seal on it?

Nobody sells just the seal. You have to buy the whole window with the seal. It costs $492. They said they changed that about 3 years ago. It's complete bull shit but they said they can't do anything about it.

Re: Sunroof Help

find it at a junkyard for cheaper. You can't use the manual pop up ones cause they are different. I am not sure if you are able to use the seals though. Check out car-parts.com

Re: Sunroof Help

Get some weather stripping. You are either going to have to rig it or dish out some money. The pop ups leak too. I had to weather strip mine.

Where did you get your weather stripping? The only stuff I have been able to find so far is the huge shit for the doors. Also, what kinda of bond or glue did you use to put the weather stripping on? Thanks for the help.

Re: Sunroof Help

You can get it at hardware stores. It usually has a sticky side.
