88 camaro 5 speed popping out of reverse

I just traded some junk for a 88 camaro with ttops that leak, no brakes, and a 5 speed manual that pops out of reverse. What would cause that to happen?

The best thing you could do is to take it into a tranny shop and have a pro look at it, if something is wrong get a couple of quotes before you get it repaired

check fluid level in the tranny. also, dip some out with your finger and smell it. if it smells burnt you better have a proffesional look at it.
