Miss with new CPU

Got the new CPU in the GTX. Runs great, till about 6200 RPMs. Then I get a miss. Also when it shifts into second I have the miss for about a second, then it's prue power.
OK let's have some of this GP brain power.
Cars almost ready for pictures. Don't worry, I won't be in them.

Need to take it into a shop that can do a CKP Variation Learn/case learn.

Any time one of these has been replaced

CKP sensor
Front cover or bracket holding the crankshaft position sensor
Target wheel (reluctor)
Crankshaft
Engine block
Engine assembly
PCM

http://www.seattleautomotive.com/ckpdoc.htm

97-2003 Engine CASE learn procedure:For DHP

1. Turn the key to on position
2. Turn Tech II on
3. Select the Diagnostics Menu
4. Select Car Information (Year, Make, Engine, Etc.) (Make sure they enter 1998 as the year.) (Also you will be asked what type of product line/type. It is a single letter code. Which corresponds to the first letter in your VIN)
5. Select Special Functions.
6. Select Variable Crankcase Learn Procedure.
7. Follow On Screen Directions.

The Crankcase Learn Procedure is going to ask the Technician to do the following:

1. Put E-brake On.
2. Make sure car is in neutral or park.
3. Turn engine on
4. Rev Car to Rev Limiter (car will hit limiter at 3,000 RPM)
5. Wait about 5 seconds.
6. Rev Car to Rev Limiter (The car will this time hits about 5,500 to 6,000 RPM)
7. Wait about 5 seconds.
8. Car is done.

Re: Miss with new CPU

Big L-
Just curious. Isn't the case learn only required on the 98-03? Thought the 97 just required you to remove the module from the stock PCM and install it in the DHP.

Re: Miss with new CPU

Big-L I uased your picture (below) (Like you can't see it). to a friend who has a bunch of cars. He wants to know how much do you want for it. I told him it's not for sale. Told him it's your "brake test" car.

Re: Miss with new CPU

Big L-
I knew it was a 98. Guess I was focusing on the wrong issue. Was just wondering because your earlier post said '97-2003 Engine CASE learn procedure:For DHP'. There is no case learn required for the 97s, right?

When I put in the GPS PCM in years ago I never had to have a case learn done.I just swaped out the module and thats all you should have to do,as long as you dont get an SES.

I had seen a few posts IIRC @ Clubgp where Charles, from DHP had said that some 97s may also need a case learn if it throws an SES/DTC P1336 or also if you are having problems with missfires in the upper end of the WOT shifts.

Quote:
IMPORTANT: If you are installing a reprogrammed PCM, make sure to take the car to the dealer to get the crank sensor position (or CASE) learned. This is not required for 1997 GP PCMs because the data is already stored in the knock sensor you switched above. You may get a "Service Engine Soon" lamp after the installation - this is due to the CASE learn not having been performed. Whether you get the SES light or not, you should still get the CASE learn procedure performed. Any GM dealer or official service shop can do the procedure if they have a Tech2; they may charge you a nominal fee for the service.
