advice

i just bought a 1995 3000GT SL with 104k miles on it. i intend on modifying it to add horsepower without spending too much money. to start out with i have been looking at performance intake like K&N but im not sure if i sould get K&N or a different brand like Stillen. Also if you have any other suggestions as to what i should do to add horsepower and increase performance please let me know.

Thank you all.

Re: advice

There are alot of cheep cold air intakes on ebay or expensive ones made by AEM for the SLs. I like K&N but they're probably all good, only thin is K&N dosnet make CAIs for our cars, just the filter (and an expensive one at that!).

Re: advice

All intakes are essentially the same, it really comes down to personal preference. Check out the FAQ for more modding ideas.

Re: advice

I have the K&N intake. It's overpriced and doesn't gain any horsepower, BUT it does have a great growl when you hit the gas and you can even hear it over loud subs. I consider it a good buy!

Other item to purchase in the future for HP gains:

Downpipe

Exhaust

lighter weight rims

or you could go another route. Upgrade your calipers & rotors. Lowering springs, strut bars. For your SL there really isn't going to be one item that will give you a tremendous HP gain. You'll get little gains here & there. Just depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

Yeah, there are like 3 K&N intakes that can fit our cars, but the Fuel Injection Performance Kit(FIPK) is the most popular. It runs between $150-200. I own one, but personally, I think it is ridiculous, as it is a $30-$50 K&N cone filter and a $30 adapter...and I paid $180.
I'd recommend going to www.3sxperformance.com and get their imitation FIPK, it is considerably cheaper. But to each his own...

Re: advice

Headers, Downpipe, Port and Polish (you can do it with a Dremel), Cold Air Intake (doesn't matter what brand, K&N is a rip off). And the FAQ covers the expensive stuff.

thanks

thanks everyone and i have another question. i went to my local performace shop and asked what they could do for exhaust and the person said that they could install greddy on it for about 750. i dont know if thats with or without intallation charges. id might do it myself also. what are your recomendations for exhaust systems? ive looked at borla and i dont know what else there is. also, will an exhaust system even upgrade my horsepower or will it just make it sound good?

thanks again,
Pulowski

Re: advice

Once again, check out hte FAQ, there is a section specifically for modding...even more specifically for N/A's (your SL). The FAQ will provide you with more answers and alot faster than we could respond.

As far as exhausts, check out www.3sxperformance.com ATR and borla are prefered brands, or you could get a custom built one for a few hundred...all of this is in the FAQ, so please do a little reading there first
