One more of these questions....
Odorless/textureless white smoke = headgasket? When hand is held infront of exaust then removed and fingers rubbed together, there isnt an oily feel. Just the smell of exuast gases. My brother keeps suggesting that it is steam....that would explain the water and smoke....but I dont know.
It dosent white smoke when first started but after warm-up. Also quite alot of water is being emitted along with the white smoke. If it is just steam, then why so much? Thanks. P.S. The smoke isnt really thick. It is considerably thin and transparent. |

I was hoping I wasn't the only one. xavier3jr, how long have you had this problem? and have you had any other problems with your car?

Sounds like water is getting in the combustion chamber, and only after the car has warmed up and the coolant system is fully pressurized. Ony thing i can think of that would cause that is a bad head gasket.

Taste the liquid, if it's sweet it's coolant. If it tastes like asslike water that has been sitting in carbon deposites don't worry about it.

Re: One more of these questions....
LMAO, good one!
Yeah, when its coolant you can usually smell it a mile away. If licking your fingers there didnt tell you it was coolant, I would call it condensation and drive it on. Watch your fluids for dropping levels or mixing though. But dont go tearing into the motor

Re: One more of these questions....
Sounds to me like it's just condensation.

Re: One more of these questions....
Check your oil...if you blew a headgasket you'll have bubbles in the oil and around the dipstick.

Re: One more of these questions....
Not true. Way to general/blanket statement. I feel like I've posted this 1000 times in the past but I'll give the short version again.
The HG seperate these systems. Atmosphere, oil system, cooling system, combustion process, crankcase. The HG can fail between any two (or more) of these systems. For example. Oil to the atmosphere. Coolant to the combustion chamber. Oil to the coolant. Etc. There a dozens of ways to blow a HG that wont affect the oil. OR wont give you white smoke. Or wont cause you battery to die and deflate 2 of your tires. Or whatever people like to blame bad HGs on these days. ![]() Also note that of the two systems involved, things will move from high pressure to low pressure. Oil is generally between 20 and 100 psi. Cooling system is at 15 psi. Which is why you almost always get oil in the coolant, and hardly ever coolant in the oil. For coolant to combustion failure, under vacuum you'll pull coolant into the chamber. Under pressure, you'll blow coolant out the overflow (I blew the whole damn water pipe out of the pump on the 11.3 run). Etc.
