Re: Tranny noise!!

Try to post what kind of car this is, turbo or NT. I'm going to assume its a 5 speed based on the post. But with the lack of punctuation its hard to tell even that Not trying to be a dick, but help us help you!

So there is a noise when sitting at idle. Does the noise change or go away when you push in the clutch? If it does I would suspect its the Throw Out Bearing. It could partially explain the tough shifting, but the fact that it gets better as it warms up also points to shyte tranny fluid. The turbo trannys do best with BG Synchro shift, or stock fluid. I have had good luck with a mix of Walmart fluid and stock. I have no idea what people use for NTs.

Get back to us on the TOB question, but change the fluid regardless.

I have a 1998 eclipse rs with star performance stage 2 turbo kit. With a greddy sp2 cat back. It does go away when i push the clutch in. Is a throw out bearing expensive to replace?

Re: Tranny noise!!

Now we're talking! If the noise goes away with the clutch in, then its usually the TOB. Which is a good thing. Its only about 20-30 bucks. The bad news is the tranny has to come out to change it. If you can do it yourself, its no big deal, just a good days work. If you have to have a mecahnic do it, then its not so cheap. And if you need a clutch or planned to upgrade in the near future, now is the time to install it You will be changing the fluid in the process as well, which can help shift quality if the old fluid was no good.

Re: Tranny noise!!

IS the temp too high? Do you have a logger or aftermarket guage? If the temp is fine then its the cap. If the temp is too high, then it may be something. Fans not working, tstat, crappy radiator, etc.

I dont know shit about turboed NTs, but I'm assuming it still uses the map sensor? Or do those damn cars have a MAS. Shit, cant help you there. If its mas air metering though I Would suspect vac leaks first.

Re: Tranny noise!!

since when does a 98 RS have a MAS? it has a MAP sensor, and my first suggestion would be to make yourself a boost leak tester and see if you have any leaks. check all the vacuum lines and the ISC to make sure thats all good. if that doesnt work... come back and post again!
