have a question about keyless entry..

I bought my 1997 Blazer last week used from a dealer. What I need to know, is if it has keyless entry or not. It didn't come with the keyless entry remote, but it has a little LED light near the light switch, and I don't know what that is. Does anyone know how to find out if I have keyless entry?

here is the picture of the little LED light.

I know this question is kind of but, If it does have the capacity for keyless entry, then I could go buy a remote.

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

Since I didn't get an answer quick enough, I called the local GM dealer, and he told me my car was equipped, with keyless entry. All I need is the remote. Does anyone here know the programming instructions for a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer? if so, please post it on this thread!

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

That LED loks to be from an alarm system or an aftermarket remote start.

Have someone check it out because I have the exact LED in my truack and guess what, I installed a remote starting system.

Also, I see your temp gauge there, is that the hotest your engine gets or was it just warming up?

I'll get it checked out.

Actually, that's the hottest the temperture gauge gets. I had driven it the night before, and parked it, when I woke up this morning, I took those pictures, and hadn't turned the key to look at the actual temperature. but that's the hottest it gets.

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

So if you have been driving for over 30 minutes that is how high the gauge gets?

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

Welp, it is a great thing that you posted that picture because you know what, we have found a problem that probably has been killing your fuel economy lately.

Your thermostat is stuck open and not allowing the engine to come up to temperature.

I would recommend:

New T-stat.
Flush and fill with new Dexcool
New Rad Cap <---very important.

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

Yep, you gotta get that fixed. If not, it will lead to more problems than just poor gas mileage. These new cars love to be at least 200 degrees.

2nd note, guarentee you have or had an aftermarket alarm in your truck. That LED light is not from GM. Take a look under the dash and look for wires that aren't in the OEM wirelooms and such.

For your programming problem, take a look at the Nonspecific forum. There are three threads on keyless entry. The one started by rubberman looks promising.

Jesus, you guys are life savers! I was actually thinking it was a little low on the temperature, considering it's got 162,000 miles on it. But honestly, it doesn't get any hotter, and I get great gas mileage. It's got I think a 15 or 16 gallon tank, and I get 300-310 miles to the tank. That doesn't seem that bad, I used to have 1997 cavalier, and it's got the same gas tank, and the gas mileage on that was 425 per tank.

Yip, swap out that Tstat ASAP and you will be AOK.

Have you ever mixed the orange dexcool with the green stuff?

I did on my cavalier. Works like a charm. No problems that I ever knew of.

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

I have a 97 service manual, three huge books. If you get a remote repost and I'll try to find the info. Hard to find anything in those manuals.
