Re: Aftermarket Exhaust kit/System for 2004 (6.0 gas engine)

I know that the SS Silverados come with dual exhaust, so you might want to check around to see if a system for one would fit your application. If you're wondering what the best of the best is, as far as cat backs go, Corsa and B&B make the highest quality systems available. The catch, however, is their price tag. I think that if you want a true dual system, it would be better for you to buy seperate mufflers, and taking it to a muffler shop to have them run you a true dual setup. I have had a Borla turbo muffler on my 4.8L, as well as a flowmaster. I'm currently running long tube headers, no cats, two 3" electric cutouts, a magnaflow xpipe, and two magnaflow 3" mufflers. The magnaflows are extremely free flowing, and only aggresive sounding at acceleration.
I was happy with the performance of the Borla, it just wasn't as aggresive as I wanted it.

Is there a freeflowing dual exhaust kit (from manifold to tip) for my 6.0L engine?

2004, CC,SB, -I'll be towing a 5,000lb trailer 2 weekends a month in the summer, and mostly light 4x4'ing -commuting the rest of the year.

Am I looking for a 3" all the way out or ???
Borla? Stainless?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
~Rob

($2300.00 for a lift kit was enough of a shock, the Dodges don't even need one to run 35" ) Grrr
The Borla catback will usually run around $600 or so. I got a stainless Borla single inlet dual outlet turbo muffler for around $130 online somewhere. It had the whole 1 million mile warranty. I love my two new magnaflows! They sound alot meaner than my Borla did.

Re: Re: Aftermarket Exhaust kit/System for 2004 (6.0 gas engine)

A rule of thumb on the Magnaflows is the smaller the muffler size, the louder it is. I went with the smallest one, the 4x9x14 3" single inlet/outlet. I went true duals because I also installed the headers at the same time. I've heard that true duals really doesn't benefit these engines, until you start getting into the 390-400rwhp range. I know several guys that did the dual setup with basically stock trucks, then complain of losing low end and end up going back to a 1 muffler stock ypipe setup.

For a 6.0L should I run 1 or 2 Magnaflows?

I'd prefer (like you) a more aggressive sound from it
The Borla is tempting though.....

Thanks,

Re: Aftermarket Exhaust kit/System for 2004 (6.0 gas engine)

I bought a dual 3 inch in, single 4" out magnaflow. I hooked it up to a custum mandrel bent 4" tail pipe. I wanted to have it bent localy, but everyone used the crimp benders, not mandrel benders. So I had a custom exhaust shop in Bend, OR make me a pipe. It fit sweet. Now I have some high flow 4" exhaust with the benifits of single exhaust.

Re: Re: Aftermarket Exhaust kit/System for 2004 (6.0 gas engine)

Yeah, magnaflow sells mufflers. I got mine from thunderracing.com. I'm pretty sure Jegs sells them as well. If I could find some way to get a clip on my computer, I would post up my exhaust setup. I'll try to find someone locally with a digital camcorder.

How much would a typical muffler shop charge to weld up and install a kit like this once I brought it down to them?

Wish I could compare a Flowmaster to a Magnaflow on a 6.0L -I want a fairly loud aggressive sound, without much increase in INSIDE noise.

(Extra HP/Torque is a bonus)

Decisions..decisions...

Re: Re: Aftermarket Exhaust kit/System for 2004 (6.0 gas engine)

The magnaflow is not going to be as loud as the flowmaster at idle and light throttle, but the flowmaster is not going to flow as freely, therefore won't make quite as much horsepower. Either one is going to yield huge gains, so if you plan on keeping the cats and staying with the stock manifolds, yet want a louder muffler, go with the flow. If you want more horses, but not quite as loud and raspy, go with the magnaflow.

I'm going to give you a link to my friends exhaust video. He basically has the same setup as me, only he has a 5.3L. He also doesn't have the cutouts, but you can see and hear how the dual magnaflow setup sounds. Tell me what you think when you check it out.

  • Stainless Steel tips
it's $425.00 +Tax

Not too bad.

Midas had about the same price (110.00 for the muffler, 280.00 for the rest of the work)

Not many people carry the Magnflow.

What would be comparable to a Flowmaster 50-series in a Magnagflow muffler?

Thanks,

I will be keeping the Cats, but it was great to hear how the Magnaflow really sound. Better than I had imagined.

May have to do some shopping around.

Thanks again,

Thanks for posting that for me, I appreciate it!
No problem. Hey, have you listened to a Corsa catback or a B&B exhaust system? They sound sweeter than anything I have ever heard!!!!

Check out the B&B sounds here!!!!

Here's the Corsa sounds!!!

Good luck on your shopping!

Re: Aftermarket Exhaust kit/System for 2004 (6.0 gas engine)

Has anyone with the 8.1 installed Cutouts? I was wondering if there was room somewhere to install dual 3" cutouts to bypass the cats.

I don't think you would have any trouble. You are still running stock manifolds, right? My cutouts are installed right after my headers, and since I have long tubes, they are pretty low to the ground. Alot of guys just install them before the mufflers. I decided to get rid of my cats alltogether. The truck sounds crazy with the cutouts open.Be sure to get the QTP electric ones though. It will save you alot of crap from having to climb under the truck and take off the wing nuts.

I had a flowmaster 50 series put on my 97 silverado w/ a 5.7L. it cost 210 for the muffler and having it installed w/ turndowns right before the axle.

the bad part... I don't really like the way the 50 series sounds. it's not agressive at all. pretty soon i'll be going to a dual 40 series setup, that's what ihad on my old truck (which also had the 5.7L) and it had an extremely aggressive sound to it. i had a quote done, it's going to cost about 265 to have the two 40 series put on.
