Talking Just bought a 2002 z24, and I'm pretty stoked!

Well, this is my first *real* car. After nearly a decade of poor credit, i have been stuck with beaters that don't run very well.

This one seems like a gem!

I have already read alot of the threads on this forum, and I can see there are a few guys/gals on here that really know their stuff.

Any advice about maintenace or preventitive stuff would be very very much appreciated! here's the specs:

2002 Cavalier z24, indigo blue w/2.4L DOHC (not the ecotech)
36,000 KMS ( 22,500 Miles, for the americans )

It had one owner before me, and it's pretty much brand new!
It has all the options, A/c power sunroof and the like, and a standard transmission.

Are there any kits out there that would carry your recommendations as far as supercharging, or any other type of performance boosting stuff?

It's a little gutless, unfortunately.

once I pay it off, I might put lambo doors on it...has to go fast before I will make it look fast.

thanks!

Turns out that it isn't the 2.4L, it's the 2.2 ecotech.
No wonder it's gutless!

oh well, it hauls my butt around town faster than a bus, or my old car. And in relative style too

Re: Just bought a 2002 z24, and I'm pretty stoked!

do what i did, i put the GM supercharger on it, cost 2,000 bucks for the charger. Put me to almost 200HP at the crank, made my 1/4 mile time go from 16.1 to 14.7. Thats an automatic too. the 0-60MPH is close to 6 seconds flat, maybe more maybe less, i dont know for sure, just comparing to the 0-60 of other cars that run this time. Definitely worth it.

Strange as it may seem, i can only find superchargers for the 2.4L ...
But, it sure seems to be the way to go. Can't beat a factory tuned supercharger that is basically taylor made for your engine. Can i use the 2.4L s/c on my little ecotech 2.2L? I dont wanna break it

Re: Just bought a 2002 z24, and I'm pretty stoked!

My bro was talking to a mechanic friend of his, and he reccomemended that i "dump" this car as soon as possible. Something with ignition prblms and front end prblms?(2002 z24, eco) Has anyone here had these areas fixed with a recall?

I have been reading up all over the place, and it would seem that there are more satisfied owners than not, online at least.

your brothers friend is an idiot. The car is very reliable. And you dont have a 2002 ecotec if you have the 2.4L. I havent heard of any real problems with the engine yet, ive heard of a few people spinning the number 3 bearing, but thats it.

Yeah, i mentioned that i had made that mistake with the engine. It says Ecotech right on it The confusion i had initially was that the dealer had 2 exact same indigo z24's there, one was a 2.4L 2001 with 116000KMS on it, and the other was my baby with a 2.2 eco.

Regarding the idiot... honestly, i thought the same thing when my bro told me he had said that... I thought to myself, mechanics only ever see the broken cars, they never see the ones that are fine. Most cars rarely break themselves with normal use... it's the maroons behind the wheel that break em.
I really enjoy driving this car, it handles like a dream and the color is kick ass. That ecotech engine seems to get some nice comments from your guys, and other forums. Looks like i scored with this car.
