ok, I have a 2000 Ranger with the oddest problem. About a week ago, I noticed my turn signals, brake lights, and hazard flashers wern't working. Being me, I hit the seering wheel, and, all was fine...for a while. Since then, I've discovered that if I tilt the steering wheel all the way up, they all work. If it is tilted even a little bit down, they quit working again. I've checked the wiring harnesses that are accessable from beneath the dash, and all is fine there... Any ideas?

Re: 2000 Ranger Turn signal/Brake light/hazard light problem
could be a pinched wire in the steering collumn.when you tilt it a certain way it pinches the wire.

Re: 2000 Ranger Turn signal/Brake light/hazard light problem
the plug on the multifunction switch is bad - the lock tabs that hold the wires into the plug like to break and the wires start to pull out - there is a new pigtail for this so you don't have to rig it or change the whole harness

Re: Re: 2000 Ranger Turn signal/Brake light/hazard light problem
I had the same problem with my Sport Trac. If you remove the plastic housing from around the steering column you should see a wiring harness that connects to the top half of the multifuntion switch. When this happened to my truck the little plastic clips that actually hold the the wiring harness to the multifunction switch broke so when I put my steering wheel all the way up it would push the harness in to the multifunction switch and everything would work great but when I adjusted the steering wheel down the tension on the wires would pull the harness out. I fixed this by applying a little bit of gasket maker around the harness clip and inserted it into the multifunction switch. I drove around for a day or so with the steering wheel adjusted all the way up and this kept the wiring harness pushed in place while the glue dried. It has been almost a year and it has held up fine for me.
