01-02 Ram 2500 diesel

I'm looking for any input, good bad or indifferent the Ram 2500 Quad Cab diesels with a manual trans. I know the 5 spd is available for these years, was the 6 spd available as well? I would like a long bed as well. I've heard in some cases that the longer wheel base frames have problems with cracking. Any input would be appreciated, like I said, good bad or indifferent. Thanks in advance.

Re: 01-02 Ram 2500 diesel

Guess it would depend on what your gonna use the truck for. I used a long bed 01 diesel dually with a 5 speed manual tran. to do nothing but pull a 36ft. gooseneck and never had a problem in the 100,000 miles that it was owned.
I havent come across a 6spd tranny with the exception of an 04.

Re: 01-02 Ram 2500 diesel

I used to work in the dairy business and a bunch of the dairymen I worked with had diesels. I think one of them had an 02 with the HO diesel and a 6 spd. I know too that these Cummins are just broke in at 100,000 miles when taken care of.

I Have A 2002 Quad Cab 3500 4wd 5 Speed Almost 70,000 Miles. 52,000 In The Last Year. I Love It Very Little $$$ To Make Tons Of Power. The 6 Speed Only Came With The Ho In That Year. On The Six Speed Only The Intermediate Gears Are Different Quicker? Also The Ho Six Speed Has A Lower Gvwr Than The Non Ho 5 Speed. So Maybe The Six Speed Isn't So Strong. I Heard About Frame Problems In The Early (pre '96) Diesels But Nothing Since. In My Opinion Dodge Makes Crappy Bumpers Tailgates And Horns.

Re: 01-02 Ram 2500 diesel

I will be seriously considering buying an 01 or 02 2500 4WD with a Cummins in the next 2 or 3 months. I know I want a manual long bed, and they can be difficult to find. But I'm willing to wait. Thanks

Well, if you're not happy with your OEM Dodge horn, you can get a train horn, like the one from United Pacific I installed on my 04 1500 HEMI. Damn, that thing is LOUD!!!! My neighbor's don't like me too much any more.

Has More To Do With Tone Than Volume I Have A Horn From Early Thirties Dodge To Install. Besides I'm Thinking That U.p. Needs To Reimburse Me For Hearing Loss. I Work By A Crossing And Well....
