Short shifting

So im at the track right. I pull up to the line and the tree starts dropping. WEll i hit the gas in D of course and i am off beating the guy next to me next thing u know the car shifts at 4500 rpms. I thought that maybe i had let off the gas so i keep going 2nd gear and again it shifts at 4500 rpms. it did that all the way down the track. It drives normal it just happens when i race it. ANy ideas what it could be that is causing the car to shift so early? its an A4 if u didn't already guess that.

If it HAPPENS* when your racing then its normal but if it just happen that once then id say its a RF or LF bad speed sensor. If you know how to use a diagnostics tool you can clear the codes when you race and should respond to whatever your gears are set at.

Re: Short shifting

No it just started doing it. I have raced it plenty of times before and it would go all the way to redline. IT just recently wouldn't redline.

Re: Short shifting

Is there a studder before it shift's or do it shift fast and firm at 4500 RPM ?and have you checked fluid level?. Also Sorry It took so long to see this.

Re: Short shifting

BTW, I don't think its a fluid level problem I think its computer glitch cause your Tach is off or Tranny shift point where set incorrectly but its goo to start with easy fixes first.

Re: Short shifting

Its a hard shift and everything. It still chirps the tires but it just won't redline. Its weird. When i first started raciing i shifted it manually a couple times. SO i knew that to red line second gear i had to move the shifter right at 4500rpm so that the car would shift at 6200. Well the other day i tried it and moved the shifter at 4500 and it shifted at 5000rpm. The time of delay has shortened. Its redlining first now but it still short shifting 2nd.
