Do I Need A New Ignition?

I have a 1994 Eagle Vision Esi. For a while, I could not get the key out of the ignition no matter how hard I tried. Due to this, the battery would drain overnight because the key would never turn off all the way. What seemed weird to me though was that if I disconnected the battery or the battery died, they key would automatically come right out of the ignition. Then when I was trying to get the key out recently, the top broke off of the key and now the key is stuck in there. Does anyone have any idea what needs to be fixed? I'd be eternally grateful for a reply.
