91 MR2 Question?

Do the 91 models come with power stearing. I have always wanted an MR2 and have kept my eye out for a respectable one and I thought I had found it until this hit me. Thanks.

Re: 91 MR2 Question?

Power steering was an option.

I much prefer the car without it.

Re: 91 MR2 Question?

Jekyl does not have P/S ... and I had the P/S taken out of Hyde.

You have much better road feel with manual steering and the turn in is much more predicatble.
The MR2's p/s is way too "easy" which makes you feel really disconnected from the road.

When I am racing, I really rather have my direct inputs affecting the car, not an exaggeration of them.

Losing the P/S system is also a great weigh to lose a good 35-45 lbs of weight from the car.

The only pro I can think of for having P/S is parallel parking. It does not bother me not having it, but I could see how some people would find it a lack of luxury while parking.

The MR2's P/S turns off at certain speed (not sure off hand at what mph).

Re: 91 MR2 Question?

Doesn't power steering rob like 25hp from the engine or something like that?!??!

New cars have electric rack and pinion so it runs off the battery and alternator.....no hp loss.

Re: 91 MR2 Question?

Most P/S steerings rob power because of the drain of the additional piece spinning off of the drivetrain.

The MR2 has the engine in back ... so the P/S is electrically assited in the front. There is no belts ... no drivetrain loss.

Re: 91 MR2 Question?

I don't want to have to shift and steer with my left/weaker arm. I will have to call him up to ask, doesn't say on the description. Thanks for the help guys, I almost forgot about the car because I didn't want it to not have powersteering. Ill let yall know if I end up buying.
