Re: Gas pedal hard to push
Ive got a 97 Jimmy with the same problem. It seems to me like the darn thing gets hung up on something, but i dont know. mine did it for about a week, and it even started doing it while i was going down the road and let go of the gas pedal, then tried pushing it in again. It hasn't done it for a while anymore though, but i didn't do anything to try and fix it.

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
Hey we had this problem on our safari van. It was like the pedal would get stuck in the up position. I guess you just have to get some grease or silicon spray and apply it to the cables and moving mechanism on the throttle body.

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
I think he is pushing the gas pedal while starting it and he is fighting the computer when starting it which explains why he is gets better as soon as it is started.

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
What I would do is remove the intake where it connects to the TB and make sure the butterfly is cleaned and is seating properly.
Sometimes gunk and carbon cause it to stick around the circumferance around it. Use TB cleaner and a toothbrush to clean it. |

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
BlazerLT was right, I took the intake off, and moved the throttle cable to where the butterfly opened a little, and there was a bunch of black gunk on the walls of the throttle body, and on the underside of the throttle body itself that was causing the pedal to stick sometimes. I just took a rag and wiped it clean.

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
And everything is kewl now?
Just to note, you should buy some throttle body cleaner and spary down the TB butter fly and get the under side of it also. Most people forget about the underside.

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
My blazer was doing the same thing, it was the butterfly. I just used a tooth brush and some rubbing alcohol. TB cleaner would probably be better though. Mine still sticks a little, not as bad though, could be something else too.

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
well i went and cleaned it today and unfortunately it didnt work...its stuck really good(i literally have to kick my gas pedal to get it unstuck). This is a big problem cause once its unstuck it stays open so my rpms are rediculously high. Anyone have any thoughts on this...do i need to replace the throttle body??

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
When you clean it, you have to wipe away all the loose sludge. If not when you close the butterfly it will push all the sludge into the cracks and when it dries it will make it worse

Re: Gas pedal hard to push
it didnt have time to dry...because it never came unstuck.
