94 cavalier abs light

i recently brought a 94 cavalier when i took it off the lot the abs light would come on and stay on even as i was driving so i checked the brakes and put new brakes on the light hasnt been on for quite a while like 2 months then the other day the light came on so i let it go cause the brakes are brand new and the hoses are good well need less to stay i was in the burger king drive though and the car died i got it goin again by a jump the light hasnt come on since.



can anyone tell why its doin this?

The ABS light doesn't apply to the brakes, as you would think. It actually means "Alternator Battery System". (I have a 93 Cavalier with the same problem) You had a weak connection to your battery and it died from lack of charge. When you jumped it, it made a good connection again with your battery and the light went off. My best suggestion is to clean the bolts with a wire brush and make sure they're in tight.

The ABS light means Anti-Lock Braking System. Does the light come on while you are sitting still or does it come on while you are driving? If it comes on while you are driving probally a wheel sensor. You have to have a Scan Tool to access the ABS codes. If the Light is on the system is deactivated. If the Light comes on while you are not moving not have driven it is more serious. Does your Cav have rear disk or drums sometimes if you have drum brakes the linning gets worn and will throw a code.
