Progress: Tamiya Mazda RX-7 R1

I realise that the wily among you will point out I have not yet posted a 'completed' image of my last project, nonetheless I have begun the next one . . .

This is built with a particular prototype in mind: the car my uncle owned a few years ago, and once let me drive . . . I pulled out of the car park at our holiday apartement in South Carolina and drove away on the left hand side of the road. Ahem.

My first thoughts about the kit (current stage: chassis and mechanicals complete, body not started) are:
  • there are far too many parts which need to be painted in two different colours in some really fiddly manner
  • the paint mix Tamiya suggest for the engine casting (see below) is very odd indeed. Sort of shiny beige.
  • I'm not convinced brake discs should be painted in X-10 'gunmetal'

The shiny beige engine.

The same!

The engine bay completed.

The oft-seen bottom of the car.

Why did I need to paint those tiny bits in there green?

Ye Wankel encore.

Yup, the R1 is a quite great kit. Your's going to turn out great if you don't give up. For the motor, the color seem right but I made the disk chrome... there's no CF brakes on that car !!? Is it ??

The engine bay is well setup and you should be able to have something close to this (an ancien built of mine):

Or even better since I'm not a pro.

Becuase they are green!

Nice work so far. Looking forward to seeing more done on this kit. I love this kit, and I love seeing other people build them on up.
