Legal to drive in canada?

Hey, I have a few questions about supra's b4 I try and get my hands on one. Im looking at a 1994 non-turbo supra from japan, its RHD and i was wondering if you are alowed to import them to canada? I was wanting a nissan skyline gts-t type m for a long time and I know that if the modle is not for sale in northamerica then canada rule is no importing unless the car is 15years or older to the month. Now with this in mind a skyline is only made in japan as apposed to a supra which can be purchased in northamerica qwite easily. Im only buying from japan because it has less than 80k on it and im saving alot of money buying from there instead of here. Any and all help is very much apreciated

Simplified the US rule states the car must be "substantially similar" to the US model, in which case the JDM version of the MKIV IS NOT substantially similar making it illegal unless you pay to have it conformed to current standards. Ever notice how much it costs to legalize a 89+ skyline here, there is a reason. If you think you can bypass the system just forget it now, if there was a way to get a $30K+ MKIV TT for $10-15K then everyone would have one and everyone would be doing it. If you want an MKIII then your in luck because you live in canada, like you said if it's 15 years to the month it's legal pretty much, it almost makes me want to move there.

But, im talking about canada rules not us rules, im confused did you mean that you can import that car to canada? What dose that MVIII thing mean and stuff, i dont know alot about supra's

MKIII = 86.5-92 Supra
MKIV = 93+ Supra
MK stands for MARK, i.e. the mark 3 is the third generation. What I said applies to Canada as well, if there was a way to get a $30K car for $15K everyone would know about it by now.

Well, i think that it is so cheap because its stock, I have looked at ones in calgary and there $30,000 because they have "10,000 invested in parts" Why cant you import these cars if they are the same as the american verson exepct they are RHD?

They may look the same, but they are infact NOT the same, door reinforcement, marker lights, labels and warnings, there are a ton of little things that make them not legal and not the same. RHD is completely legal in the US and Canada. Also no, those MKIV's are $30K US because that is what their worth, not what they have invested. Jap auto's are cheap because the older the vehicle gets the more taxes you pay on it, it's more incentive to buy new cars which is better overall for the economy. There also cheaper because there not legal here, it's much easier to scam someone out of $10K than $30K.

Hmm, ic. Is there a way to just not tell your insurance company that its from japan?

Also, Is there anyway that you could change the warning tags and stuff so that it meets the "codes and regulations" of canada?

Maybe your not getting it yet, it is not that simple because if it was then EVERYONE would be doing it. Everyone buys MKIV's sold here in north america because it is cheaper, and easier. You have to be an RI and have a special liscence to modify and legalize imported cars last I checked, it is not as simple as slapping on some stickers. As for not telling the insurance company, what do you think will happen when you get in an accident and they find out the car isn't legal. How are you going to get insurance on a car that hasn't been legalized in the first place? If your thinking of swapping VIN's you might as well get that thought out of your head now, jail time goes with that and you get the car crushed. This is the last I'm going to post on the subject because there really isn't anything new for me to say, so I'll say this, save your pennies and buy one already here and it will save you alot of headaches in the future.
