Question about the front motor mount just behind the radiator and in front of the oil pan. There is an oval space in the rubber material just below the middle thru bolt that is open on a new mount. On my escort the space is flattened out so the rubber touches. Does the weight of the motor cause the gap to close in the mount? Is this a normal position for the mount or is it shot? I can't see any signs of a split in the rubber.
I get a clunk in the front end and I can't figure out if the mount is broken or not.
