Unhappy 1995 LeSabre Electrical Problem

I installed a new starter and battery in the car and now the factory radio and A/C unit will not function, no indication of life at all. All other electrical items are working properly (lights, wipers, windows, power seats, etc.) I checked the fuses under the driver side panel and they are okay. I haven't had this car too long so I'm pretty sure there's somewhere else to check and I'm missing something important. The Hayne's manual I have isn't helping me out a great deal since it is non-specific to the LeSabre and I'm not a mechanic or electrician. I would like to fix it myself, if I can, or just know what to tell a real mechanic what to fix. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks everyone!

How did you check the Fuses?? If you didn't use a testlight then sometimes there can be no way to tell if it's actually bad.

Re: 1995 LeSabre Electrical Problem

Thanks for the reply Josh. I pulled the fuses and they were ok. Tested the connection to the fuses with an electrical tester and current was ok. Any advice on what or where else to check? I've only had this car a couple of months. Thanks!

What i meant was, The fuse itself, you put a test light to the top of the fuse to see if it's burnt out, if it's working the test light will light up.

Re: 1995 LeSabre Electrical Problem

That's one of the little known things about blade fuses. That little hole in the top where the number is that exposes the metal so you can touch it with a probe. I actually saw a little... device they are making for fuse kits now to test them.

There are two connections to the battery. One to the starter and one the MaxiFuse Relay Center. If the car is starting and the other power accessories are working, then both wires are connected to the battery.

In the fuse box at the drivers feet, I know several of the fuses do several things. I'm pretty sure there are two that will kill the radiol, one is labeled Radio and another labeled something/something/RDO. That's probably the one that blew.

If not, then it is a common Maxi fuse in the MaxiFuse and Relay Center (I just love saying that). Located under the hood, at the rear of the engine compartment. (Which could vary well be, as that's where the relays for the A/c are.)

Now as for why the fuse blew... who knows. Did you connect the positive terminal to the battery first, or the negative?

Thank you for your assistance, gentlemen. I shall re-check the fuses and let you know the outcome of my findings.
