New Box?

Ive been doing som research on some audio stuff, im thinking of upgrading sometime around christmas. I found this box for my rear seat and I wanted to know everyones input on it. Im not sure if I would get the best sound if the speakers were downfireing or how they are. I couldent upload the single pic so ill just put the link... [url]http://www.stealthboxes.com/index.html[url]. Just check out the one for the 99 and up chevys. I only want to put 10's in their and replace my factory speakers and head unit. Any ideas on a good amp? I asked them and they told me I could have that box for $200 delivered to my door. Just let me know what everyone thinks.

Re: New Box?

yea... the proboxes do look a lot better. Do you know what the prices might be on one of them? How about the difference between a downfireing box and a regular one?

Re: New Box?

I wish they would put a little more info about their boxes on the website. I would like to know how durable the boxes are...like, if i was to lift up my seat, would it be safe to put heavy stuff ontop of it? What are the boxes made of? and is their a spot to mount an amp?

Re: New Box?

The proboxes are durable as hell. I've stood on one to adjust an amp before and had no problems out of it. I can get them and resell them for about $100 or so, give or take some, really depends on the box. I like them, and If the one I built ever fails, thats what I'm getting.

Thumbs up Re: New Box?

I have a Probox in my 2000 Ext Cab Z71. I am very happy with it, except that it does not have an AMP rack on it. I have two 10" JLAudio subs sitting in it, I had the front door speakers replaced with 6" Sony three-ways, and have the stock head unit. All this is pushed with a 1000Watt Sony Amp. It sounds good and has some great chest thumping bass. Only problem is that I need a larger alternator to push all the systems...lights keep on dimming and the radio starts skipping when I have maxed out the juice it provides. Am going to upgrade to 140AMP Alternator.

Where did you mount the amp?

Re: New Box?

If i Were you, I'd buy a capacitor rather than an alternator. Much cheaper.

Also, you can mount the amp behind the rear seat, My friend has 2 Memphis 12's in his 99 ext cab, i'll look at his and see how he had it done.

Re: New Box?

I just got an e-mail back from the guys at probox...he said that the 99X-2-10-DF will cost $200 delivered. He also said to mount the amp on the drivers side rear corner, mounted at 45 degrees.

"I have used 3" flat right angle brackets with a speed clip (timmerman Clip) attached to amp side. With plain holes used for mounting. Theres not alot of room for a custom wood bracket, you may consider a metal bracket. There is not alot of locations to mount an amp in this truck, this seems to be the most logical & practical spot I have found. Battery run is a straight shot, signal & speaker wires can run across and up the passengers side behind the glove compartment, easy."

Re: New Box?

Thats right, not many options on where to place the AMP. I mounted the AMP behind the drivers seat on the floor board. I have power seats so there wasn't any room to mount it under the seat.

I thought about installing a capacitor, but after much thought I leaned towards a higher output alternator. When i have the truck off with the key in the accerories mode, my system works unitl i'm about to blow the speakers without any problems. Its when I turn the truck on...and all electricals are pushed by the alternator that the lights start dimming and the radio skipping. My understanding is that the capacitor gives you a power "shot" when the amp requires during deep base tones.

Re: New Box?

That is correct about the deep bass tones, but then again, thats what is making your lights dim. The lower the frequency of the bass note, the more power it takes to produce. IE..a 80Hz note will draw drastically less power than a 30Hz. I have a 1 farad cap on my system and my lights have yet to dim, even at night w/headlights, A/C, everything on. Thats 1020 watts pushing 2 Bostwick HDX 12's

To see pics of the system to go here

Has anyone heard both the probox and the MTX Thunder form? The MTX has more volume per chamber, but less mounting depth so you cannot put a good of a speaker in the MTX. However, more volume per chamber produces louder bass. I am having trouble deciding which is better.
