I recently replaced the Oxygen Sensor and everything worked fine; the engine light stayed off, idle problems went away, etc... I let the car sit for over a day and went to use it this afternoon. I'm not sure if fixing the oxygen sensor has anything to do with this or not.
Car won't start. I normally put the key in and turn on the battery first to roll down the windows and then turn the engine on. I was met with abrupt silence. It went dead. As I was holding the key at Start, there was no repeated clicking, just silence. I turned the key off and tried turning it on again and this time at the battery stage, the dash lights and sounds weren't there at first but then faded in. Again the Start key position killed the sounds and lights and did not start. I tried having my friend jump me but it did not start. At best it gave me gasping sounds that should have been 'car starting beeping'. I also noticed I can't push the brake peddle when I'm starting. I took the battery out and had it tested at the auto parts store and its fine and didn't need charging. So is it the starter? Is it the alternator? Is this something I can do on my own. I am an amatuer at best. I have a Haynes Repair Manual, chapter 5-8 Starter motor - removal and installation shows the starter, but not where to find the starter. Where can I find it? My friend just now said to follow the positive battery cable down in the car to the starter. I will do that when I have light tomorrow and if I can find it check the connections and read your reports. Please help. |

Re: 95 Park Avenue won't start
The problem seems to be that battery voltage is not making it through the ignition switch. Try cleaning the security chip on your key. If that doesn't fix the problem, clean the battery connections.

Re: 95 Park Avenue won't start
I bought a new battery. Car did not start. After cleaning of the battery-connections it started perfectly.

That's exactly what the problem ended up being. The positive battery terminal connection had corrosion that needed to be cleaned. Thanks everyone... Jon |

Re: 95 Park Avenue won't start
if not pickup a 5 dollar testlight, the start should always have power on the large red wire. and the smaller wire(yellow or purple i beleave) should have power when the key is to start.
