Why silver integras are the fastest (00-01 models)

Some of you may or may not have heard this, but to clear up some confusion I thought I would set things straight.

Actually, there's a very reasonable explanation behind why silver tegs are faster.

First off, the vogue silver colour is only available in japan, therefore, silver tegs are the only ones that come fully equipped & ready to go. Whereas other tegs are painted in the US, and that's where they are equipped with a US emmissions compliant catalytic. Silver ones are already equipped with a japanese cat - which is less restrictive.
Why does Honda get away with equipping these Integras with higher flowing cats, than others? Because many of you don't know this but the standard US cats are well within the emissions legal limit. The japanese ones although less restrictive are actually still within the acceptable limits. Ever wonder why you can buy a hi-flow cat in the US without breaking emissions laws?
Also, something to do with the way the engines are bored on the assembly line - each 5th one gets the best bore.
There also happens to be 5 colours available for the 00-01 models.
Since the 5th car was always painted silver, they always had the best bore, coupled with a higher flowing cat adding an additional 3.5 hp over the other ones. Do they advertise this? No. It wouldn't make sense, then everyone would only buy silver tegs.

This has been the best kept secret from Acura, and until now, this info was only privy to Honda/Acura employees. So if you wonder why you just got smoked by a silver integra - now you know.

Seen?

Hmm.....okay, but what if they started the colours in a different order? Could have been blue, or red that was the 5th car

Good questions.

I don't know the exact reason why, but for some reason, the order is never broken. The japanese manufacturers have a zen-like method of sytematically conducting their work. Meaning if for some reason the order is broken, they must re-start in the same order. i.e. a1, b2, b3...
never a3...b4...c5...
I think it also makes sense logistically if all their machinery is operating on a dynamic basis.

Also, the satin silver colour was a limited feature, only available to a small handful of 00-01 gsr's. The paint was available in the US, hence US cats. However they were made LAST, after all other colours, meaning they were made all at once. So every 5th satin silver gsr has the benefit of the optimum bore. There's no way of knowing which ones though.

Thats interesting...but believable I suppose. It doesnt sound like your bullshitting and I can see a well oiled Japanese production method where something like that would happen systematically.

I am a bit skeptical myself. In any case...silver tegs have not been made in a while.

Heh heh, don't laugh.

Soon i'll be sporting a "powered by silver paint" sticker.

BTW - not true about silver tegs not being made in a while, I happen to have a vogue silver 2001. There's a TON of 00-01 models in vogue silver and a small handful of satin silver ones.

Further to the discussion, my sources tell me that the jdm spec silver paint also contains a teflon like material that reduces drag and has known to improve track times by a .01 of a second when tested on identical cars. Which isn't much, but could literally mean the difference between winning by a nose. Or bumper.

It's true!!! You don't believe me?

Nasa tested this same paint on space shuttles and found that silver space shuttles broke the atmosphere a full 4.8 minutes before other ones.
The silver paint also holds some heat resistant qualities, which are hardly noticeable in automobiles, but played a huge part in the longevity of such aircrafts. Firstly, the colour itself tends to reflect heat rather than absorb it, secondly, the decreased drag means friction caused by winds exceeding the 800km hr mark is reduced to a 5th of usual temperatures, and lastly because the particles dissipate heat more rapidly than previous models. Ever wonder why space shuttles used to be white, and are now silver?
The safety of today's cosmonaughts can be attributed to innovations such as this.
