91 honda accord help

i have an accord and i have oil all over the engine. On top of this, my idle is really low for some reason. I brought it to someone and they told me that i probably have a valve cover gasket leak but he also took out my spark plugs and showed me how metal was grafted onto the end of the plug. He said that i probably have a piston ring blown. He also tightned up the throttle but my idle is still low. My mechanic also attributes that to the piston ring. He advised that i get the engine rebuilt or buy another car, how right is he? it sounded kinda hokey to me honestly. Is there any truth to any of this?

oil all over your engine probably is the valve cover gasket.

as far as your rings, do a compression test on them and see what you get. also what kind of metal was it ? was it a big chunk ? was it part of the spark plug ?

Re: 91 honda accord help

no pretty much it look like metal burned on the end of the sparkplug there was oil all over the top of the engine and and on the sparkplug boots and he still never told me how that messed up my idle problem the only thing he said was that because of a engine blow something due to the ring that it is probably bringing my idle down. the gasket is not very expensive to fix is it? The metal was not part of the spark plug and tiny pieces of it were stuck in the rivets of the screw part of the plug. It wasnt a big chunk but it looked like beads of liquid metal that were stuck to the end of it, they were round. i heard that through wear and tear this is normal...is it?
