coils on springs are touching = normal?

Hi,

I just installed Eibach Pro-kit springsw/ TokicoHP shocks. The coils of the spring (at the upper part of the spring) are literally touching. Is that normal for the coils to be that close? I called Eibach and they said it is because on a new spring design, does anyone have any input on the subject or have the same experience?
