Re: how much hp gain??

Any gain will be nearly imperceptible. If your car is an all out race machine, I could see it being justifiable- but keep in mind you have to remove about 100 lbs to pick up approx. .1 sec. I think the RSX ac setup weighs around 15-20 lbs, but not 100% sure. Granted, it's a bit of a drain when it's running, but you'd be better off just leaving it off as opposed to pulling it out. In an American car like the Mustang, that thing is like 40 pounds plus, so it makes a little more sense to remove it....but still not really unless you are pretty hardcore.

Re: how much hp gain??

the ac/heater does not take horses away untill it is turned on. While not active it is a free-spinning pulley. When turned on the clutch on the ac-unit locks and then takes the hp. Taking it off drops weight, as s777 said, but not a lot. This technique is used by weight reduction enthusiasts, but it is usually used in conjunction with the removal of various other things.

Re: how much hp gain??

Weight reduction is only half the gain lower friction is another benefit but it is still going to be very minimal.

Where'd my post go?

And yeah, no point in doing this unless you've got a full our racer.

I don't know about that. On the RSX I haven't really noticed much difference between the A/C on and off, but on other cars I have noticed a BIG lag when the A/C is turned on. On the Neon I used to drive you would lag right after releasing the clutch and revving up in first. Right after clutch engagement it would jerk you forward and then hit a slow spot where the revving decreased and then kick back in. This lag wasn't there when the A/C was turned off and it seemed to last about 1/2 second or so. So I guess it just depends on the car.

Re: how much hp gain??

lol my first car, or truck rather was a 94 dodge ram v6 longbed, that poor truck, after ragging it for a couple years i couldnt have the ac on if i was accelerating from a dead stop, i mean i could but it literally accelerated like i let off the brake and didnt hit the gas. Just thought yall might get a kick out of that.

The A/C system on the RSX kicks off under hard acceleration. That's probably why you're not feeling a major lag.

Re: how much hp gain??

That's cuz of the SRI

Or maybe all your Clay Gayken CD's are weighing the car down.

Re: how much hp gain??

You're all wrong. Turns out it was the Complete Barry Manilow. Someone want to swap for the Neil Diamond set? I hear it's only 6 CD's to Barry's 8. Trying to reduce my weight so I can be faster at the track, you know?

Wait...I'm sorry. Did I say "faster"? What I meant to say was EXTREMELY MORE GAY.
