code P0117

So I took my girlfriends 96 Saturn to get emissions tested and it failed the first time. The read out said it was throwing codes P0117 and P0118 and it said that the cat, o2 sensor, and ecg or something like that systems were not ready. I reset the computer and drove around for a half hour took it back and it was throwing code P0117 not the 118 thought. This time it said that the cat, o2 sensor, oxygen heater, and the ecg or whatever was not ready. Any way to fix this to make it pass emissions I really don’t want to pay 200 to get it looked at and fixed.

Does Saturn still sell the plastic ones? When I replaced mine I couldn't tell the difference between the old one and the new one besides a slightly darker color.

Hmmm, well the one my local dealership gave me looks nothing like the 'new' brass one. I'm guessing they gave me the old type. I guess I have something to look forward to again in the next couple of years . I thought that Saturn stopped selling these around 2000?

Re: code P0117

i thought they did too, unless they had a huge stock of the old ones and still going threw the reserves, i would try another saturn dealership, or spificly ask for the new brass design, see if they know what you are talking about.

I would go to another dealership but I can't. I have been going to Saturn of Albany and they have been pretty nice. The other Saturn dealership seems to be full of a bunch of clueless morons. They were the ones who told me there was 1) no transmission fluid pan in the car 2) told me the only gasket any where near the transmission was for the valve cover (not valve body, valve cover. I asked the person twice). And any time I asked the guy to look up a price for a part he kept getting huffy. Sorry, I had to get that out there.

Sorry to be straying from the topic, but do ask specifically for the new brass type. As for me, the last ECT that was in there lasted about 4 years (it was the old type). I'll just wait till this one bites the dust instead of forking about another $17 for another one.
