1998 Explorer, adding a Cd Changer

I Just got a 1998 Explorer and am one of those dudes that loves Cd's and subs. I want to keep the stock deck if I can so it looks clean. I was just wondering if anyone knew what type of cd changer I'd have to install to work with the stock deck and if I could install some subs and have them work off the stock deck. Thanks for any help.

There is a company in AZ that sells CD players complete with wiring harnesses that plug right into your existing stereo. The CD player can mount right in your center console storage area. I'll look and see if I can find teh name.

Re: 1998 Explorer, adding a Cd Changer

Once had problems with my 96's stock CD changer. A reputable Car Toy Shop here in town I believe offered an Audiovox and JVC (don't really remember) that plugged into the stock stereo and was thus controlled by the stock stereo too. Alot will depend on which stereo unit you have.

Any after market unit with a FM modulator would work fine too. Then you could use the Changer remote to control the deck (this is probaly the cheapest option!)

As far as the subs you probamly will have torun the stock speaker wire into a crossover or something to pull out the bass then send back to the speakers. I don't think Ford stock units will have a preamp out. But I am not certain as many stock stereos now have amps too.
