Check Engine light is on

I have a 96 GA SE my check Engine and ETS lights are both on. this has happened once before, but I got the engine changed and it was fine. Both times it's happened on long trip where I've travelled over 100 miles non stop. Any suggestions. Cause I feel its important to have ETS.

Re: Check Engine light is on

Get your diagnostic codes read for free at autozone. As far as your ets light being on don't you have a button on your gear shifter that you can press in to activate or deactivate your ets?

It could be that you gas cap is loose. Try to tighten it and see if the light goes off.

Re: Check Engine light is on

The button on the gear shifter doesn't affect it at all, bot like it normally does. I'll have to check the gas cap later when I go out.

:(

I went to the auto parts store and got it checked with a scanner. It's either my O2 sensor or catalytic converter.

Re: Check Engine light is on

Did they give you the code numbers or is that what they just told you? Both parts vary a lot in price. As far as your ets not sure about the circuit but check to see if a fuse is out. Can't believe emissions would be tied into traction control.

Re: Check Engine light is on

they gave me the print out from the device they used. I've checked all my fuses and they are fine. Though my tail light/dash fuse dos blow often they are all fine. I was thinking the same thing about the traction control being ionvolved.

It could be possible, I'm not overly familiar with the ETS except for the fact that I always turn mine off, but it works by controlling the engines power output so it could very well depend on emissions depending on how sophistacted the system is. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Check Engine light is on

Thank you all, I've been looking into buying a high flow "cat" and tunable exhaust even before I encountered this prob. so it just puts more importance on it. can anyone tell me the diameter of my exhaust pipe at my catalytic converter and muffler?
