93 suburban CD player

I recently aquired a 93 suburban, and it has a casette deck centered in the dash seperate from the radio controls. I want to install a cd player in the slot vacated by the casette deck. What kind of deck will fit in that slot and play with the stock radio controls?

I think you'll find that you'd need to find a deck that would have been originally offered for that year. However I don't think you'd find a CD deck that performs very well that was created for the '93 model year.
If they even made one. If you do find something, please let me know. I've been looking for some time now.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that an OEM deck was the only way I could retain the original radio controls, but I had to ask.
Do you know if an aftermarket receiver will fit in the slot where the radio goes, or do you have to put it where the cassette is? Maybe I will put a whole different system in, the reciever in the radio slot and an equalizer or a changer in where the deck is now.

hey i'm new so here's my 2cents i have replaced my cassette deck with a kenwood radio and add a 12 disc changer if you have a radio shack,walmart,
or major store in your area you can get the correct
part for changing the radio over...note you will not be able to operate your aftermarker radio with the sock controls the stock radio will be just an extra in your dash if you keep it there..you can replace it with a stock change holder to use the space..ok thats it for me have fun

Soulavenger has the idea that most people do.
I'm not really into that idea, I'd actually like it to look like it was
made that way, not altered, if you get my drift. I've looked at other Delco head units to see if they made something in the same dimensions as the existing stereo head, that plays CD's. That way you could swap out the head, and put a blank over the deck hole. But I've not found anything for that either.
I think I'll be crazy, and just swap out the damn dash all together.

I'm sure there's something out there, but I've not found it. Maybe you will.

I put my Alpine in the slot where my EQ was in the center of the dash with a kit that matches the OE color & texture as for the stock radio, it was removed an a pocket installed in it place that hold about 6 cd's, It is not deep enough for a DIN sized head unit.

I think I've found a solution to the problem. Two possibilities: OmniFi makes a music keg (hard drive that stores MP3's) that has a remote that is close to the size of the cassette deck. Kenwood also make a keg with a slightly smaller remote. I still have to measure the cassette deck before I decide which one to buy. It should be simple, put the keg under the seat and mount the remote in the hole where the cassette deck was. Both units can play over the FM with the appropiate accessory. The OmniFi even has an accessory that allows you to download music from your home computer over a wireless link while you car sits in the driveway. Neat Huh!
