Removing small scratches

We have a 2003 Camry that has a few small scratches, as you might expect from driving and parking the car around town. I understand you can "buff" the car surface and remove these scratches. Would any of you be able to advise on what sort of buffing equipment I would need (including specific brands you would recommend if possible).

Many thanks in advance

Re: Removing small scratches

Start with a rubbing compound. I like meguiars. Be patient the scratches don't just disappear. Work them out with some elbow grease, but be careful the rubbing compound is abrasive. Then wash, polish and wax.

Re: Re: Removing small scratches

Thanks corbinwaterski - I have tried that and had some success. But as you say, more elbow grease required!

I see you can buy electrical buffer tools - do you think those are effective? I have heard they can damage the paintwork if you are not careful. Do you think I am better sticking with a scratch cream and a good old rag?

Re: Removing small scratches

If you have a nice good clear coat on the car you can wet sand areas with 1500 to 2000 grit sandpaper. If the scratch is into the base color coat or deeper then paint repair will be in order. But again after the sanding then a good compound with electric buffer will bring it back to new. Less elbow grease will be needed with the proper tools.
