Bad Fuel Filter?

Hey guys, I just found this web site and i love it! I have a 1992 Saturn SL1 with a 1.9L SOHC, 155,000 miles on it. Can someone tell me how to determine if my fuel pump is bad? I filled it up with gas a couple days ago, drove it home and the next day when i went to start it all it did was crank. I can't hear the pump run when i turn the key. If the fuel pump is bad, what is involved in replaceing it? Is it mounted in the gas tank? Is there an access panel in the floor board or does the tank need to be removed? Is there a particular brand of replacement part that is better than others? The reason I suspect the fuel pump is because the exact same thing happened to my work truck about a year ago and it turned out to be the pump. Thanks!!!

Re: Bad Fuel pump?

first, check all fuses, double check:PCM I, PCM B, FUEL INJ, FUEL PUMP, DIS. if you have a spare relay, check the pump relay(or run a jumper wire from the top most terminal to the bottom most to short the relay out).

then, remove the spark plugs and wires(from both engine and coil packs), have a second person crank the engine. you should see a spark jumping tower to tower on the coil packs, and you should be able to smell raw fuel from the spark plug holes.if you don't see a spark, chances are you need a new CPS. if you can't smell fuel, i would still make sure the pump is geting power(do you have a multimeter/voltmeter?), and possibly do a pressure or flow test before trashing the pump(i beleave in a full diagnostic )

and yes, you do need to drop the tank
