buying a 3000gt

hey everyone, i am considering buying 3000gt i am looking at the vr-4's cause they have so much more power. how do these car's perform? i have never driven one, the closest ive gotten was a 91 stealth stock. anyway how reliable are these cars? and are the parts really expensive? and how hard is it to do everyday maintenance on them? and what is the best year? ok thanks,
-tom
p.s. anyone selling any vr-4's, with low miles?

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: buying a 3000gt

Watch out for the turbos. A bud of mine had an Eclipse twin turbo, one went out and he was back on the road $4,000 later. Another bud had a twin turbo, I forget what his car was not a Mitsubishi, and it cost him $7,000 to get her running again.

No slam on turbos, but the economics can be a little freaky.

Ride Safe,
Jake

Re: buying a 3000gt

I've not heard of 3kgt's having their turbos go out on them. Also, was that eclipse stock with the turbo? VR4's come with a turbo that is pretty well-suited for it's needs.

Re: buying a 3000gt

Yea... couldent have been just the turbos, you can get new turbos that are twice as powerfull for a lot less than that. Maybe he turned up the boost and broke alot more than just the turbo. And 7k to get a car running agin sounds rediculous when you could probably just get a brand new engine + instalation probably for less.

what are you talkin about no eclipse came out twin turbo. unless they put a $hitload of money. and as mitsu turbo cars being realiable, its all about how you drive it. drag it everyday to stoplight to stoplight youll have unrealiable car. take care of it and it will last you a long time. i love every turbo car mitsu made especially vr4s and gsxs. proven over and over again how much potential they have and what they can do.

Hhaha kinDA SOUNDS LIKE IM PREACHIN lol.

Re: buying a 3000gt

opinion is opinion. everybody likes there own. arguing wich is better is pointless. if 3k were the best everybody would want one(i want one ) . but not everyone is lookin for one. as of the gsx not everyone is lookin for one. i cant afford no vr4 so ill still look for my gst gsx. everyone likes there own.

Re: buying a 3000gt

well it all depends on if u like the pop up lights or not, becuase with 10K u could prolly get a 91'-93' VR-4, but a 94-96'll be harder to come by, and I highly doubt that u could get a 99 VR-4 for that model. the VR-4's rated at about 300+ HP (depending on what year) and u could easily get more HP out of it with simple mods (as to be found in the FAQ section), but it's gonna be a sh** load faster than a probe.
