2002 Grand Cherokee Voltage Problem

I have an 02 Grand Cherokee with an inline 6 cylinder. At random times, the Brake and ABS instrument panel lights come on, and the voltage (show on the gauge) will sway from about 10-14 volts. If I continue driving , the car dies. But after shutting it off for a few minutes, it starts and runs just fine.

I've had the vehicle for about 5 months, it has happened 4 times. The dealer has looked at it, but the problem has not occurred when they had it, so no help from them.

have you checked your battery connections? Make sure they are free from corrosion and tight. Get some baking soda and water and clean off the post and clamps using a toothbrush. Apply anit-corrosion grease to the terminlas. Check the ground where it attaches to the vehichle I know this seems simple but it has fixed numerous electrical problems with Jeeps. HTH

Yes, I agree 100%, it sounds like a loosen or corroded connection.

Check the Voltage across the Battery with Multimeter digital or analog. If the voltage is dropping as on the dash guage your altenator is bad or your belt or tensioner is bad. Like other post says clean the connections first.

Make sure you check out your grounds too!

Did you evre find out what the problem was? I am having the same issues on a 2000 Jeep.
