Question Muffler Suggestions?

Hi all, I'm new here, and my cavalier's in dire need of a muffler. I really don't wanna go with a stock muffler, but I also don't wanna buy a $400 stainless cat-back system. Is there any possible way to get a nice sound that's a little louder than stock without being a.) Illegal and b.) expensive? Thanks. (Btw, I have a 90 Cavalier w/ 2.2 TBI, 3-spd Auto)

Just call your local auto performance shop and see what they have for your vehicle. You don't have to go with a cat-back system if all you want to change is your muffler. There are so many options I don't even know where to begin. Try Reactive - a good sounding, straight through ,perforated muffler can be had for $169CDN (I don't know where you are - US or Canada.) Other brands are Magnaflow, Aerospeed etc. These are your least expensive options - and they are good quality.

My muffler is starting to get rotten too. In traffic idling you can hear a loud buzzing from the baffles inside. I took a hammer and hit the bottom until it sound good and it worked.
I have heard magnaflow and reactive on cavalers, both sound good not very loud and good performance. I have heard aerospeed on a 2.2L celica, VERY LOUD unless you get the one with the silencer which is not good performance. I have heard Flowmaster 60 series on a cavalier, sound awsome but theres 3 chambers of flow resistance, still better than stock. Most likely im gonna get a magnaflow dual tip.

Re: Muffler Suggestions?

I recomend the flowmaster. I had one on my 94 cav with a 2.2 auto. It sounded great and also inproved my gas milage. Only problem is that they are not stainless steel and they will rust out on you in about 3 years. It only cost me 75 bucks to boot. I would go with something stainless steel now in hind sight..... hows that saying go... hind sight is always 20/20 lol

on my 2k4 cavy. I love my borla pro xs muffler from ebay...Total cost was around 225 for 2.5 inch mandrel bent cat back exhaust, muffler, and a bosal brospeed 4in tip. I love it great gas milage and a really low tone to it. definately not rice. And a lifetime guarantee from local shop. Gettin ready for the pssssssssssssstttt

Matt~
