Mysterious Warning Beeps
My 1995 Ranger has developed a (warning?) beep that goes in a fixed sequence of beeping 5 times, then a pause then another 5 beeps and repeats this 5 times. The beep is coming from the passenger side under the dash. This happens every time on start up and somtimes it happens after hours of driving too. Does anyone know how this can be disconnected or solved? Could it have anything to do with the airbag system?

In short, you probably have a burned-out light bulb in the passenger-side air-bag disable module. If you have a soldering iron and a half-hour, you can fix the problem yourself with a $2 light bulb from Radio Shack. You can find details at the thread link above. |

Re: Mysterious Warning Beeps
Hi guys & gals:
Probel is correct about the airbag light problem, and Ayn, you did not buy one without airbags. There are multiple lights for the airbag system...each for a different purpose. The amber light with the key is for arming and disarming the passenger airbag ONLY. There should be another one just like it in the cluster (speedometer area). If not, that's the one that is burned out and causing the 5 tones to sound. Here's a site that will explain everything you need to know about airbag lights and resetting the system. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/ This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting airbag lights. See if your car is listed here. Although it’s a pay site ($14.95/day), it’s a lot cheaper than going to the dealer http://www.airbagsolutions.com/vehicles_list.aspx On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. The flashing light on your car is telling the answer you need. On some vehicles, the light is flashing a two digit code. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing. Airbagsolutions.com has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong and how to fix it! Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool. Check out these websites also for more info on airbag systems and the light. http://blog.airbagsolutions.com/arch...ould-i-do.aspx Lastly, check your vehicle for recalls through this link also: http://www.airbagsolutions.com/nhtsa.aspx

Re: Mysterious Warning Beeps
To follow up. The beeping does seem to be caused by the light burned out in the speedometer area. I found someone to fix it for 50 bucks and am told the light will then stay ON all the time if there are NO airbags. We are quite sure there aren't any. Maybe I can stick some black tape over where the light shines if it's bothersome. Anything to get that beeping to stop. I don't plan to up and do anything right away, since I have other vehicles to drive. Thanks for the input here and if there is anything else anyone might want to tell me. I'd appreciate it.
Thanks, Ayn |

Re: Mysterious Warning Beeps
UPDATE:
LOL! Well, the beep did get fixed but, whatever it was... I don't know. Last year we got this recall about a fire hazard under the hood. By this time, I was nearly a basket case listening to that beep. I wasn't about to let no backyard mechanic mess with it. (no offense to the brilliant back yarders) Anyway, I was more than upset to get this recall notice. To think the vehicle could of burned up just sitting in the drive way, not to mention these annoying beeps. Just wasn't a good day and nice lady behavior went out the window. I showed up at Ford having a good ole fashion fit. I was loud and I was mad. Flat out told them they were going to fix it at their expense. If they didn't I would take the dang thang to a vacant lot and torch it. Well they had the recall so that paid em good, I'm sure. When I got the Ranger back... the beeping was gone. Now it is a pleasure to drive. I know you guys can't pull these little female tricks but, this was once I was glad to be a woman. Lady Ayn |
