Well guys, it's finally my turn....lol
I have explained in a couple other THREADS about my Rear Wiper Problem, it used to work fine when I first got the Jeep, then about a months later it would go fine for the first few wipes then slow down to a complete stop. and for about the last 5 months or so it wasn't working at all.
a few guys gave me some suggestions that it prolly siezed up, and to spray some lube on it and it might help, well I did that and then started turning the the wiper back and forth while the Wiper was on, to get it started this started working but it was going real slow, i kept spraying lube in it and trying to work it loose. well then I decided maybe the bolt was too tight and putting more tension on the motor, so I broke the bolt loose and loosen it a lil, well this worked big time, the motor started moving again at about normal speed prolly (well I don't remember how fast normal speed is b/c I haven't seen it move in awhile) well this lasted about 10 minutes or so, then it started slowing down again, and then it go to the point where it stopped, so I turned it off sat for a minute or 2, then turned it on again and it started going again like everything was fine, about a minute later it slowed down again. well now what do I do. has anyone ever had this prob b4. or is it jsut time for a new motor. any suggestion? |

The "lube and help it start" method lasted about 6 months for me, then it was replace it time.
What are you spraying it with? Some sprays (like WD40) are good for breaking it loose, but don't provide lasting lubrication. I'd go for something like a lithium grease. |

I used STP Silcone Spray. I will take it out and put some grease on it.
but I am still having the same problems I had b4, it would go alright for a minute or so then slow down. |

If you are handy with small electric motors, Take it out and take it apart, Lube the bearings and carefully re-assemble then reinstall it. It`s not as easy as it sounds but with patients, You can do it. If not...Replace the unit.

My '98 was doing the same thing a few months ago, now it doesn't work at all! When mines would slow down I would loosen or tighten the bolt & it would speed up again, I'm to the point now where I think I just need a new motor! Chrysler in my area stated a price of about $70 or so.

Re: Well guys, it's finally my turn....lol
well croozer it worked, I tool the shaft for the Wiper Arm that the Motor turn in which turns the wiper back and forth, out and greased the shaft, it has 2 lil spacer things that the shaft turn inside of - well the front one was siezed up real bad and it wouldn't allow it to spins freely (I think the motor might have gotten hott from trying to turn it and would shut off) well I broke it loose, sanded the area and grease the shaft, and put it back 2gether and it workes like new I let it run for 40 minutes and it never slowed down nor stopped.
I would like to add that the front riser spacer thing, broke when I was trying to put it back in (I hammered it into the shell and the shaft wouldn't go on- it compressed and wouldn't fit on,) so I took the spacer thing out and just left it off. and it workes great. Thanks again, Now if anyone has this problem just do what I did, it works. I will updating everyone if anything changes. |

Great news!
I think that probably 80% of the rear wiper failures are just siezed shaft bushings. I probably should have disassembled mine, cleaned and lubed it, but I was lazy
