Trans Problems
My 1996 x/cab gmc recently developed a transmission problem that I can't seem to fix. The truck has a vortec 350/4L60 trans with 139k, I drive it back and fourth to work everyday and it shifts fine, but when I try to pass someone it won't shift into the passing gear. I've held the gas pedal all the way down and it won't accelerate or shift. It stays in the same gear and actually seems to slow down.

Kickdown switch broken? Just change into 3rd/2nd on the column for now when you want to overtake.

Might not be the tranny...
I experienced the same thing last winter with my 97 Sierra. We replaced the fuel filter and all power was restored.

Definately check the fuel filter.
