Unhappy Swapping motors need help asap

Please, I need help. No mechanic will tell me if I can swap my 1989' Pulsar NX SE Ca18de motor with a 1988 Pulsar NX Ca16de. What I have is the Ca18de, can it fit in the 88' NX pulsar is the real question. My frame is bent too much, its a write off but I have about $5000 in parts that I don't want to throw away ( I'll never get the value back is what I mean), so I found a cheap 88' NX but ... They are both DOHC. ??? So can my better motor fit into the older model ?

Can I do that ?

The biggest issue would be the ECM (and all wiring and sensors). I am 95% sure you would have to swap this as well. The motor fits fine if you look at the Chilton specs (Cubic Inches) for both vehicles. You can get both books at the local library if you don't want to go off what I say.

actuly, i beleive the ECU will be fine. The REAL problem with swapping ca18de and the ca16de is that the clutch is a cable in the 1.6L and the 1.8 has a hydrolic clutch system.

in order to bring a ca18 into a '87 you would have to swap the pedal to mate with the new engine.

i think a few connector are differant on the wireing harness too. ca18 has less then the ca16 i beleive.

but other then that you should mostly be all set. the ca18de is basicly a bored (spelling is bad) out ca16 with slightly updated wireing (hence less).

good luck

As far as the actual fit of the engine in the car or as far as legally? Given the proper amount of creativity and money, any engine can be made to fit any car.
