Transmission jerks from N to D

Hey ive got a 91 talon n/t AT and when I put the car in to drive you have to keep your foot firmly on the brake our else the car jerks really heavily into gear and sometimes it takes a second to go in. Sometimes after you feel it go into gear it slips out right away and stays in neutral even if it says its in Drive. it doesnt have this problem into Reverse or if you try to put the car in drive while still rolling it grabs instantly and throws ya forward. One more thingt is when your on the highway and in OD and you give a lot of gas to kick down to 2nd it jurks a lot but if you turn OD off first, its shifts to 3rd smoothly and then when you fgive it gas it downstifts nicely. So wth? the tranny was rebuilt about 30 000 ago so it should be good shouldn't it? is there any kind of adjustment screw on these trannies or does it need a filter/fluid change or what?

Re: Transmission jerks from N to D

sounds like the torque converter is locking up all the time.

ya i kind of wondered that but when your going down the highway you can tell when it goes into lockup cuz the revs drop a bit but if it is the torgue converter locking up what can you do about that?

Hey well I wish I could of checked that out but I'm actually in the midst of throwing a manual in, Im just about done the swap. I hated the automatic anyways. So did yours hesitate to go into gear sometimes then all of a sudden slam into gear? By the way I figured out what was wrong with the od. Turns out when I took the end clutch out all the discs were fine but the snap ring that holds done the main spring was broken. Easy and cheap fix!

only about 15000 ago but personally I just think the tranny needs a rebuild or the torque converter is toast. Because it would hesitate to lockup. I dunno I have my 5speed now anyways
