Question Bottom lit table/ light box

I'm looking for a bottom lit table or box to sit on a table. They are used to look at negatives (hence the photograpy section) and on CSI when they spread out all of the evidence.
I did a google search and an image search and found only this:

The pic has the word "MSI" in it so i searched for that, but they only have smaller gem/mineral displayes

Does anyone know of a manufacturer/distributer or how much they cost for a 36" x 24"?

MSI is the company that makes the computer sitting on top of that table. Not the table itself.

Re: Bottom lit table/ light box

true fact=MSI (micro star international co., ltd.) is the company that made the computer.

Multistone International may have built the table, but it is probably just a coincidence.

Re: Bottom lit table/ light box

if you're worried about even light, just do what laptop LCDs use. they usually have one or two straight cathode tubes behind a white/translucent film that softens the light up a lot. and behind the light there is a lot of reflective material also. i'd say crack open an old shit laptop or find a picture of one. that's a good place to start.

Re: Bottom lit table/ light box

If building one you would need to use daylight balanced flouresent lights to get a pure white light.
Otherwise everything you look at may have an orange glow to it.

What you are talking about is called a light box, or light table.

I searched for both in google and found several links to places selling them and instuctions on how to make them.
Architects and engineers also use them for tracing plans etc.
Any good arts supply store should carry them, or know where to get one from.

Re: Bottom lit table/ light box

Thanks moppie, the proper name was the most important part. I want one that covers my entire desk so they are too expensive to buy, but i'll draw some plans and see if i ever get around to building it.

The MSI is a crazy coincidence.

Thanks all.

Re: Bottom lit table/ light box

I just looked around for my father's light-box but was unable to find it - I'll ask him about it tomorrow. I did, however, find his old (70's) slide viewer (not projector) which uses a very similar concept. It was made by Hudson Photographic Industries (http://hudsonphotographicindustriesinc.visualnet.com/) - you may want to try them to see if they offer what you're looking for.
