Check Engine (ghost) light

95 bird/ 4.6/ 91k miles. The check engine light started comming on about a month or better ago. I have replaced 3 of 4 oxygen sensors. Replaced the pcv valve along with the vaccume tubing that came with it. Taken out and thourghly cleaned the MAF sensor. Code reads bank 1 & bank 2 running lean. I feel as though I am chasing a ghost and am at this point almost ready to trade in on something else. I have replaced the TPS sensor...since every time I start up and give it some gas to get out into traffic at approx 3k rpms.. the car holds as if it has a governor attatched to it.... once it warms up its ok just at the point when I frist start it does this happen. So there I have 2 problems... bank 1 and 2 running lean... and a govenor like feeling when I first start it up and give it gas.... and btw it doesnot have to be in gear to have that govenor feeling to it at 3k It does that even in park or neutral.....Any ideas or help would be appreciated..... thanks

Pull the codes again. See if something else shows up.

Re: Check Engine (ghost) light

I have the same problem, i talked to the Auto-Zone guy who did my codes. He happened to be an avid Thunderbird guy. He has a 95 4.6 also and he said he had the same problem to. SOmething gets into the MAF and completly messes it up. You have to replace the MAF. He said that he has replaced his 3 or 4 times. Cleaning it just won't do it. Does your car have drastic power loss above 2000 or 3000 rpm?

Re: Check Engine (ghost) light

oh you do have the power loss. Yeah replace the MAF it's a $100 part, and should clear up the problem. The guy said that it is a pretty common problem on 94-95 4.6's due to the placement of the MAF.
