tranny out in 96' intrepid
my tranny went out in my 96' intrepid, the car has 140k on it and i was just curious if it would be worth the 1500 or so to put a new tranny in it or if i should buy something else.........from what ive heard tranny's are the only thing you want to watch out for in these would I have motor problems in the near future or would it run for a while?

Re: tranny out in 96' intrepid
It's up to you if you want to invest $1500 to rebuild the transmission. Your car is worth $4450. If you have either the 3.3 V6 or the 3.5, they are both solid engines. As long as you regularly maintain your engine, it can last you up to 200,000+ miles.

Re: tranny out in 96' intrepid
I would get rid of it. I had a '96, tranny went at 132k and I traded it in. A couple weeks later after they fixed the tranny the motor blew while they had it on a test drive. Up to you.

Re: tranny out in 96' intrepid
Just get a junk yard tranny, The intrepid does have a serious trans problem, my 95 has gone through 4 of them already with 150000 miles on it. Paid the bucks to have the first one rebuilt, and it lasted about 15000 miles, was 14 months old, so no longer under warrenty. #3 was a junkyard trans for 300.00 and I got 60,000 out of that, don't know what it already had on it.
only engine probs i had was a water pump. |
